FG Passport: A Lakeside Vacay to Udaipur

Place of Adventure:
Looking for a lakeside adventure with a side of sun? Follow our trail and visit Udaipur, where sunsets, lazy afternoons and good views are the hour of the day. Never mind those who say that it’s just a romantic city—take a BFF, sister or just go solo, sister.
Grab a Bite of:

- The OJ and eggs at Ambrai in Amet Haveli (it’s right by the water and gives a view like none other to the City Palace in Udaipur)
- The buffet at Indian restaurant, Cafe Udai Kothi which is also in Old City. Be sure to lounge by their poolside and soak in the city views.
- A glass of wine (they have rosé!) at Upre, the rooftop restaurant in Lake Pichola Hotel, with a stunning view. Tip: Book in advance and you won’t regret it
- A big old Rajasthani thali at Natraj Hotel to satisfy any and all hunger pangs!
- Step inside an artisan’s workshop by attending a block-printing tour (we took the one by Walk& Pedal and it was fantastic), or take one of their cycling tours around the Old City. The guide is super knowledgeable and happy to wait for pictures!
- Hire a taxi and trudge up the Monsoon Palace (also known as Sajjan Garh Palace) for the best sunset view in town. However, beware of the monkeys haggling with you for the best vantage point!

- Lounge by outdoor courtyard, Ambrai Ghat in the evening for a not-so-impromptu photo sesh and brilliant golden light
- Be a true-blue tourist and ride into the sunset (literally) by hopping into one of the cable cars at Karni Mata point
- Indie brand, Avaraan for hand-embroidered and block-printed clothes, scarves and blouse pieces in earthy colours
- Keep a lookout for the leather bag shops found in small handicraft stores all around Old City
- Find intricate miniature paintings over handmade paper, old used postcards and more at streetside artist shops
- Anokhi right outside the City Palace (and definitely take a moment to take a leaf from the gorgeous interiors of the palace, too, like we did!)
Give it a Miss:
- You can skip the cultural show in Bagore Ki Haveli. If you’ve already seen other Rajasthani programmes in Jaipur, there’ll be nothing new or that exciting to look at!
- Avoid the cabs offered by most hotels; they will def. take you for a ride. Uber or Ola is your best bet!
Get Our Look:
All through the trip, our fave Udaipur-inspired shoes kept us good company.

We also wore the Golden Sunrise juttis to accompany the good views, and slipped into the Poppy Power Monk Loafers to add a splash of colour and fun.
